Letter from the President

Welcome to the “Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento” web site!  Speaking for our club members we are happy you found our web site and are taking this opportunity to preview our information.  Our club has been around since 1948 and we are preparing to celebrate our 60th anniversary.  Our club is rich in traditional and culture.  Over the past fifty-nine years our club has provided an opportunity for community members and business leaders to build lasting relationships while providing them an opportunity to give back to the community.

Our club is comprised of business and professional leaders dedicated to high ethical standards in vocational and volunteer community service.  Our club is a member of District 5180 of Rotary International.  For more on how we provide “Service above Self” see our Community Service and Rotary Foundation links on this site.

I joined our club in August 2003 because I was looking for an outlet to give back to my community.  I grew up in this community and had a lot of great influences from the families and business leaders in our town.  I finally reached a point in my life where I could start repaying this debt and helping others.  It did not take me, or my family, long to become “Hooked on Rotary.”

My theme as the President for our Club this year is “Get Hooked on Rotary.” When did I get “Hooked on Rotary?”  I can not cite a specific date, but I can recall when I started getting the hook set.  It started when I was called upon by our incoming President to serve on his board as a director.  Who knew that call would lead to a lot of fun serving on the Board for various Presidents for the next several years, multiple community projects and opportunities to meet other Rotarians – locally and internationally – who were definitely hooked on Rotary?  In February 2005, I cut off my pony tail to raise money so some of our local children could participate in after school programs – arts, theater, and sports to name a few.  Shortly after that event, I realized I had truly become “Hooked on Rotary” and it has become a very important part of my life.

Our club has almost 95 members and we are looking for a few more people to become involved and possibly "Get “Hooked on Rotary.”  We meet weekly for lunch – 12:15 at the Club Pheasant in West Sacramento (map). Our discussions are diverse and presentations are the best in the district.  We have been referred to as being the “friendliest club” in the district.
